What different types of magnifying tools are available?
Magnifiers, or magnifying glasses, are very common items used both in the engineering industry and in general everyday tasks. They are used to magnify small objects and make small text more easily visible. In engineering, their uses could include reading small inscriptions on drawings or inspecting small parts (for instance turning inserts).
The common assumption is that all magnifying glasses feature a handle and large circular lens (like popular culture detectives like Sherlock Holmes). However, this is not the case. Magnifiers come in a broad range of styles, sizes and magnification levels. Our most popular magnifier is pocket or folding type magnifiers, as they can be quickly transported around the workplace and do not take up much space.
Different models can include features like illumination through LED lights for magnification in situations with low light levels, interchangeable lenses for magnifying objects at multiple levels and focus adjustment for clearer measurement.
Size is also a differentiator between magnifiers. Pocket magnifiers are the smallest type available (which are foldable for conserving space). Larger models feature lenses attached to immovable handles (which may sometimes be foldable), and these are what people traditionally associate with magnifying glasses. Even bigger magnifiers are available, of which many feature table-top stands for ease of use.
